John Runnette

For many years local Wimbledon artist John Runnette has been inspired to paint Landscapes of Wimbledon Common's woodland and heath, capturing the calm and tranquility of this area of natural beauty. John is fascinated by the mystery of the woodlands, particularly at night. He works in the tradition of English romantic landscape painters, resolving his ideas with a detailed observation of form, colour and light.His work is perhaps a visual equivalent of contrapuntal music, with its emphasis on positive and negative space and form, and infinite variations of interacting themes.
